Where our data comes from.
Pelagic State is built on openly published scientific data. We're grateful to the agencies and scientists who collect it, and we credit every source here.
SST Cloud Free (daily sea temperature)
NASA JPL MUR SST v4.1 (JPL MUR MEaSUREs Project, 2015; doi.org/10.5067/GHGMR-4FJ04), served by the NOAA CoastWatch West Coast Node ERDDAP™ server (coastwatch.pfeg.noaa.gov/erddap). Temp Break and Isotherm lines for this layer are derived by Pelagic State.
SST Latest (hourly sea temperature)
ACSPO Himawari-9 AHI L3C sea surface temperature, produced by the Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) and the NOAA/NESDIS/STAR SST team. Himawari-9 AHI data provided freely by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Accessed through NOAA CoastWatch.

Himawari-9 sea surface temperature (backup source for SST Latest) supplied by the P-Tree System, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
Chlorophyll, water clarity, currents, waves and sea level
Generated using E.U. Copernicus Marine Service Information. Products used: GLOBAL_ANALYSISFORECAST_PHY_001_024 (surface currents); GLOBAL_ANALYSISFORECAST_WAV_001_027 (waves; doi.org/10.48670/moi-00017); SEALEVEL_GLO_PHY_L4_NRT_008_046 (sea level); MULTIOBS_GLO_PHY_MYNRT_015_003 (altimetry currents); OCEANCOLOUR_GLO_BGC_L3_NRT_009_101 and OCEANCOLOUR_GLO_BGC_L4_NRT_009_102 (chlorophyll and water clarity).

Tide predictions
LINZ standard-port tide predictions, with secondary ports computed from LINZ's published offsets. Some stations use TICON-4 tide station data: Hart-Davis, Dettmering & Seitz (2025), SEANOE, CC BY 4.0. Moon and sun times are calculated by Pelagic State.
Derived layers
Temp Break, Isotherms, Pelagic Zone Edges, Current Eddies and every offline package are processed by Pelagic State from the sources above. They are our own interpretation, not products of the original providers.
